SDK stands for Software Development Kit. It is a set of software development tools which is used to develop Apps that are sold on Samsung Smart TV.

The Mac OX and Linux platforms are now supported by the Samsung Smart TV SDK.
In addition to the Eclipse-based App Editor, a new Linux-based Emulator has been released.  This Emulator executes in an Ubuntu virtual machine that is run in the Virtual Box virtualization tool. This release also marks the introduction of the Cloud Emulator.  The Emulator is hosted on a remote server that developers can connect to using a “thin client” Emulator on their development machine.  Currently, this feature is supported only on the Mac OS X platform.

Samsung provides the Samsung TV Apps SDK for developing Samsung Smart TV applications. It is equipped with a simulator with which the application can be tested before actually installing it in the TV, and so creating applications is easier using the SDK. The SDK also includes a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) tool that you can use for designing and creating the UI and all UI components.

You can test your application in one of the following environments:

SDK Emulator
The Emulator provided with the SDK simulates running an applications on a TV. It enables you to test your application before deploying it to the real TV.

Samsung Smart TV
Running your application on a target device, a Samsung Smart TV, allows you to debug and test your application in a real-time environment. You must run your application on a real TV to be certain of how an application behaves.
